Why the Spring Festival is the Best Place to Spend Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day weekend in Austin marks some of the last days of pleasant weather before the summer heat sets in. Once we reach June, we’ll be seeing consistent temperatures in the upper 90s and the triple-digits until September. Take advantage of these more comfortable days by spending your Memorial Day weekend at the Austin Spring Festival!

As the world starts to open back up, Central Texans are looking forward to venturing outside of their bubble and gathering with people they haven’t seen in a while. That makes a trip to the farm with family or friends a perfect adventure for Memorial Day. Just 30 minutes from downtown Austin, Barton Hill Farms has 119 acres of land on the banks of the Colorado River where you can spread out, enjoy the fresh air, and reconnect with the people you love.

Gather Friends or Family in a Semi-Private Cabana

Memorial Day is a time to remember those we’ve lost and celebrate those still with us. You can gather with up to ten people in our semi-private cabanas

These spaces give you shaded seating, and a spot to congregate for meals and conversation. Each cabana includes a fire pit, where you can make a big batch of s’mores. Plus, they’re right by the Jumbo Jumping Pillow, so you can relax while the kids wear themselves out.

These cabanas give you the ideal “home base” where you can reconnect with your crew and enjoy your Memorial Day weekend.

Relax in the Biergarten with Live Music

While the Austin Spring Festival is clearly a family-friendly event, grown-ups are also welcome to enjoy their holiday weekend with us. Instead of going to a crowded bar, why not enjoy a local beer or cider in our shaded biergarten?

The drinks include:

  • Altstadt Brewing Kölsch
  • Twisted X Brewing McConau-Haze
  • Austin Eastciders Original Dry Cider
  • Austin Eastciders Blood Orange Cider
  • Frozen Sangria Slush

The “keg room” at the biergarten is a 1960s raspa trailer that’s been converted into a functioning tap wall. Get a refreshing drink and reconnect with friends in the 2,000 square foot space, made lush and green with plant life. Live music entertains the guests every day while they enjoy their brews within view of the Colorado River.

Get Out Into Nature

Soon, it will be hot enough that most of us will retreat to the air conditioning from mid-morning to sundown. But for now, it’s still pleasant to be outside all day long!

A day at the farm is a day of fresh air and old-fashioned, low-tech fun. There are activities to keep all-ages entertained, like apple canons, catch-and-release fishing, archery, and hay rides. Get up close and personal with some of our farm animals, like our friendly llamas. And visit the U-Pick Flower Fields to cut a bouquet of fresh zinnias and sunflowers before the Texas heat dries out the greenery.

Plus, we’ll have live outdoor entertainment, like the Mobile Dairy Classroom and daily shows by World Champion gun twirler Pistol Packin’ Paula! Sure beats watching YouTube videos on the iPad.

Enjoy Delicious Food and Drink

Memorial Day barbecues are great, but isn’t it nice to let someone else do the cooking? At the Austin Spring Festival, you get the fun of a summery outdoor meal without the work or the cleanup.

The farm has seven different food and drink stands where you can get a meal or a snack. At Friar’s, enjoy a boat of crispy hand-dipped chicken tenders with a side of tasty french fries. Grady’s Smokehouse is grilling up hamburgers and cheeseburgers, along with tender pulled pork sandwiches. That’s some classic Memorial Day fare!

Johnny’s Pizza has cheese and pepperoni pies, plus salads for a little roughage. And make sure to try our newest addition—Avaleigh’s Famous Strawberry Shortcake. This delicious summery treat has fresh berries, rich pound cake, and whipped cream for a delicious dessert.
